Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania Board of Directors Elects John F. McKenna as President
MacElree Harvey attorney elected to lead the board of regional resource for legal assistance and legal education.
West Chester, PA, April 8, 2010 - The Board of Directors of Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania (LASP) has elected MacElree Harvey attorney John F. McKenna to serve as its President. McKenna has been active with the LASP board for more than five years and for the past two has served as Vice President.
Co-Executive Director of LASP Harvey Strauss, Esq. notes, "The board and staff of LASP believe that John McKenna will be an outstanding board President and we look forward to his leadership over the next few years." McKenna says that his initial focus will be on securing additional funding for the organization so it can expand its legal support to the working poor in the community.
The mission of LASP is to provide quality legal representation to low-income people, to empower them to solve problems without legal representation through legal education and increased access to courts, and to change community practices and systems that cause or aggravate poverty. LASP operates six offices across the four counties it serves: Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Bucks. The organization includes 60 employees, 31 of whom are attorneys, and operates with a $4.5 million annual budget.
McKenna has been practicing law for twenty-two years. He concentrates his practice on commercial, estate, and general civil litigation and mediation. McKenna is located in MacElree Harvey's West Chester office.
In addition to his work with LASP, McKenna is the immediate Past President of the Chester County Art Association, is a member of The First National Bank of Chester County's Wealth Advisory Board, is the Pro Bono Committee Chair of the Chester County Bar Association, is the Foundation Chair of the West Goshen Lions Club, and is a member of the House of Delegates of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. McKenna also served as Past President of the Chester County Bar Association (2004) and the Chester County Bar Association (2000).
