The one-day session will take place on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the Hotel Hershey. Nelson will speak on the duties of experienced hearing committee members. The Disciplinary Board's goals are to protect the public,
to maintain the integrity of the legal profession, and to safeguard the
reputation of the courts. The purpose of the disciplinary system is to
assist the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in performing its constitutional
duty to regulate attorney conduct. The Disciplinary Board is an independent
agency under the Supreme Court's jurisdiction. Louis N. Teti, a MacElree Harvey partner, is also a member of the Disciplinary Board and is the former chair of the organization. Nelson, a graduate of Boston College and Villanova School of Law, practices commercial litigation and family law at MacElree Harvey. He was admitted to the Delaware and Pennsylvania bars in 1991. Nelson has been a member of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board's Hearing Committee since 2001. He has also served on several committees for the Chester County Bar Association, including The Law Explorer's Committee (Chair, 1993-present), Young Lawyers' Division (Chair, 1998), the Nominating Committee (1996, 1997), the Mentoring Committee (1999-2001), the Judicial Evaluation Committee (Chair, 2002), and the Board of Directors (January 2003-present). Other organizations Nelson gives his time to include the Pennsylvania State Bar Association, where he served on the Task Force on Balance and Quality of Life from 1999 to 2001, as well as the Delaware State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Inns of Court (John E. Stively Inn), and the Legal Marketing Association. Nelson has also served on the Presidential Scholarship Steering Committee for West Chester University (2000-present, Chairman 2001-2002), on the Board of Directors for Legal Aid of Chester County (1998-2000), and on the West Chester Business Improvement District (2001-present, Chairman, 2004).
