Harry J. DiDonato

Attorney Interview: Harry DiDonato

February 25, 2025 by MacElree Harvey, Ltd. Leave a Comment

Meet Harry DiDonato: A seasoned transactional attorney and trusted business advisor, Harry brings over 25 years of legal expertise to the table, guiding startups and established companies through complex business and legal challenges. As both an attorney and a business owner, he understands the unique hurdles entrepreneurs face and approaches each client’s needs with strategic insight and practical solutions. Whether structuring a new venture, negotiating high-stakes mergers and acquisitions, or advising on real estate and tax planning, Harry’s big-picture thinking and attention to detail make him a valuable partner. Recognized for his excellence in the legal field, he has earned an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been repeatedly named to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list. Outside the office, you’ll find him enjoying time at the shore with his family, hitting the golf course, or cheering—enthusiastically—for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

  1. What is your practice area?

Business, Real Estate, and Tax Law.

  1. How long have you been with MacElree Harvey?

Full time 33 years.

  1. How has your role evolved since you first joined MacElree Harvey?

When I started with MH, there were 12 lawyers, and I was a law clerk after my first year of law school. I am now the longest tenured partner at the firm. My role has evolved from a nuts and bolts legal practitioner to more of a trusted adviser, confidant and business adviser for clients.

  1. Where were you born, and where did you grow up?

I was born in Drexel Hill, PA. We lived there until I was 5 before moving to Exton.  I have spent most of my life living in Chester County and raising my family in Chester County.

  1. What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a basketball player.  That dream really never had a chance.

  1. What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

I have always liked engaging in competitive discussions about almost any topic where I had some knowledge, so I was constantly told I should look at a career in law.  For a short time I also thought about politics but that was short lived.

  1. What is your favorite pastime outside of work?

Spending time with my family and golf, and it is even better when I can combine the two.

  1. Which 3 words would you use to describe your job?

Challenging, demanding and enjoyable (most of the time).

  1. What are your most significant accomplishments in 2025?

2025 has just started but in 2024 Cristy and I saw two of our children marry really great people who have fit into our family seamlessly. I like to think that we had some role in helping our children develop the skills, judgment and confidence to allow them to make really good decisions in their lives, including the choice of a partner.

  1. As head of the Business Department, can you name some of your team’s most significant accomplishments in 2025?

Over the past year we have helped numerous clients negotiate often complex business transactions that have helped them unlock the wealth in their companies and achieve, in many cases, a lifelong goal and financial security.  We have also worked with many clients on complex company restructurings and real estate transactions.

  1. What advice would you give to someone considering a career in law?

You really need to like what you do to be successful at it, so I would advise them to find out as much as they can about the law from several different viewpoints. There are a lot of unhappy lawyers out there.

12 MacElree Harvey Attorneys Named as Best Lawyers® 2023

August 18, 2022 by MacElree Harvey, Ltd.

August 18, 2022 – MacElree Harvey, Ltd. is pleased to announce that twelve lawyers have been included in the 2023 Edition of The Best Lawyers in America®.

More than 40 years ago, when Best Lawyers was established in 1981, individuals couldn’t search Google reviews or social media pages to compare the awards and reputations of lawyers and law firms; they relied on word-of-mouth recommendations. Enter, The Best Lawyers in America® award.

Harvard Law graduates founded Best Lawyers on the principle that the best lawyers would know, and be able to recognize, the best lawyers in their location and practice area.

Lawyers on The Best Lawyers in America® list are divided by geographic region and practice areas. Based on professional expertise, they are reviewed by their peers and undergo an authentication process to make sure they are in current practice and good standing.

Lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed; therefore inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor.

“Only the top 5.3% of all practicing lawyers in the U.S. were selected by their peers for inclusion in the 29th edition of The Best Lawyers in America®.”

Particularly noteworthy are the gender demographics for the 29th edition. “While gender demographics are still very slowly changing (especially at the senior partner level), we did see a 17% growth in the number of female lawyers represented in this year’s edition,” said Director of Research & Development and Managing Editor at Best Lawyers, Elizabeth Petit. “Our awards continue to highlight more female awardees each year as the legal industry catches up to other professions in terms of gender disparity.”

MacElree Harvey Partners Harry DiDonato and Lindsay Dunn Quoted in The Legal Intelligencer

February 2, 2021 by MacElree Harvey, Ltd.

Business, Real Estate, and Tax Law Attorney Harry DiDonato and Land Use Attorney Lindsay Dunn were quoted in The Legal Intelligencer article entitled “Best Marketing Tool to Grow Business: Do Special (Free) Things for Clients” published Monday, February 1, 2021.

The article discusses the benefits of “personalized acts of service” as a way to provide exceptional client service and be appreciated and remembered by clients in the future.

Attorney Harry DiDonato recounts how he helped his clients with timely PPP loans in the beginning of COVID in 2020, and how it has benefitted his own practice by way of referrals later in the year.

“During COVID, we were able to help several clients and referral sources ‘off the clock’ obtain PPE loans with lenders and one particular story comes to mind. Last April, with the onset of the PPP loan program, there was a significant amount of confusion with both lenders and borrowers. Many lenders were struggling to get their PPP loan application process open and, if you recall, there were reports at the time that the appropriated money was going fast and that the program was going to run out of money. An existing client that I had helped through the PPP qualification and application process referred a business to me that had a need for funds but their bank had not yet opened their loan portal. They had also called other banks who told them they were not taking on new customers for the PPP loans and were just looking to service their existing customers. This referral was concerned that the funds may not be available if they waited too long to apply. Upon learning a bit about the business, I realized they would be a coveted customer for a bank in ‘normal’ times. With that in- formation, I called one of my contacts at a bank that I knew was accepting and processing the applications and I connected them with the referral. They were able to obtain their PPP loan in a timely manner. Recently, I heard from the referral that they had a need for some corporate restructuring with a potential for a financing transaction from an investor. They engaged our firm to work with them through the process.”

Attorney Lindsay Dunn also shares her acts of personalized service within the last year:

“I regularly checked in with my clients across various industries in 2020 to see if they needed any assistance navigating how to adapt to regulations when the county within which they operated would change from red to yellow, or yellow to green.”
